Therapeutic approaches to healing for after a pregnancy termination

Pregnancy termination trends among Black women are influenced by various social, economic, and healthcare factors. Studies indicate that Black women are more likely to seek abortions compared to their white counterparts, often due to disparities in access to contraception, healthcare, and socio-economic challenges.
However, less is known about the ways in which Black women negotiate the decision making process around terminating pregnancies. Further, how do they ensure their wellbeing after the process. These realities are important to consider given cultural perceptions and stigma surrounding abortion. Mental health support is crucial for Black women, particularly those navigating the complexities of reproductive health decisions. Research has shown culturally centered approaches empower Black women by providing the necessary support and care tailored to their unique experiences and challenges.

One person leading the way through research and clinical approaches is Dr. Marckdaline Johnson. Dr. Johnson is the Clinical Director at The Silentmarck Empowerment Center. With nearly two decades of mental health experience, she helps men and women find strength and empowerment as they navigate the pain of abortion, miscarriage, loss of self, and relationship or marital conflicts. Dr. Johnson is dedicated to guiding individuals toward healing and reclaiming their innate power
